This sturdy, reliable, easy to build and cheap fighter aircraft was the real hero of the Battle of Britain, accounting the 60% of the RAF victories over the Luftwaffe. Although not as fast as the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Hawker Hurricane was well armed and highly maneuverable at low altitudes. More than 14,000 were built and served on all fronts during WWII.
