8,8 cm German Flak

The German "Acht-Acht" (88 mm) was by far the most famous and versatile artillery weapon of WWII. First designed and used as an anti-aircraft weapon, it becames early a multi-purpose cannon against all kind of targets: aircraft, fortifications, pillboxes, bunkers, ships, vehicles, and it could be fired either from the wheeled carriage or from its cruciform base. But it was in its anti-tank role (Pak)  that the 88 earned the reputation of a feared weapon by the Allies; a captured German Officer described the action of his battery of 88 anti-tank guns..."Well, its like this, I was on a hill as a battery commander with six 88 and the American kept sending tanks down this road...we kept knocking them out...every time they sent a tank we knocked it out... finally, we ran out of ammunition and the Americans didn't run out of tanks"...
