The Culin hedgerow cutter was a device made of steel that welded in the front bumper of Allied tanks (specially M4 Sherman tanks) helped them to cross the dense hedgerows from Normandy bocage. Hedgerows formed natural barricades that difficult the mobility and fire power of Allied tanks and helped the German forces in their defensive tasks. Sgt. Culin of the 102nd Cavalry Squadron designed a bocage cutter using scrap steel from German anti-tank beach defences.
