When you take a look to this tank it seems to belong to WWI period , but in fact the Churchill Tank played its role during WWII. Designed as an infantry support tank, it was not intended to engage enemy armor. Its big tracks gave him good mobility to save obstacles with more success than other contemporary tanks, but the small turret with mediocre gunnery gave it poor fire performance when compared with the Tiger or Panther German tanks. In their late versions (MkVII) with thicker armor and a 75 mm gun the performances were much better. Playing different roles from disastrous defeats (Dieppe Landing, 1942) to successful campaigns (Normandy , 1944) the Churchill Tank looks like the typical British Tank par excellence.

None of these were armed with a 17 pounder gun. The 75mm gun on the VII was a shorter gun of slightly smaller calibre.
