Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant

When the Porsche prototype for the Tiger I  tank was declined in favour of the Henschel one, the remaining built Porsche chasis were converted to heavy tank destroyers, or Schwere Panzerjäger. Also named Ferdinand (after the designer's name Ferdinand Porsche), this tank featured a well armored fixed casemate that housed a 8.8 cm Pak 43/2 L/71 gun, capable of destroy huge quantities of enemy armor at a long range. It saw combat principally in the East front, but also in Italy, Normandy(*) and the last fistful of surviving Ferdinands fought in the Battle of Berlin.

* Some sources situate a Ferdinand  in Normandy, inflicting heavy casualties in succesion to Allied armor and disapearing in the bocage...but this is pending to be proven, maybe was a King Tiger...
